If someone had told me that one day my mother would not know me after she had developed dementia I would not have believed them. Yet, gradually, it has happened as her dementia progressed.
I only wish that I had recognized the first signs of memory loss and dementia for what they were and possibly I could have slowed its progression. Sadly I will never know.
