Short Term Memory Loss -
Tips for Strengthening Your Short Term Memory Improvement And Ability To Recall

Short term memory loss can be frustrating. Like where are the car keys, what's that person's name, what was I going to do next? You don't have to put up with forgetfulness ... here are some tips to help improve your short term memory.

As we discovered on the human memory page you have 20 seconds to capture a piece of data before it is lost. The techniques you discovered there for encoding, storage and retrieval are useful when you need to remember a list or someone's name.

Let's take a look at some memory improvement tools you can use to make sure to strengthen your ability to recall and avoid memory loss.

  • Use Mindmaps. Mind maps are diagrams that help you to classify, structure, visualize, and generate ideas. They are a terrific aid in writing, decision making, problem solving, organizing and studying. Using mindmaps can improve your ability to recall because they mimic the way your mind associates and stores information.
  • Learn to Speed Read. Speed reading helps filter out irrelevant information in a text, and allows your brain to work fast to digest information in a quick manner. I'm a fan of photoreading, which is a leading-edge technology that takes speed reading to a higher level. Photoreading has been shown to improve retention levels dramatically beyond those that are achieved through simply using speed reading.
  • Get organized. By organizing information in a logical format you are able to recall things in a much easier manner. For example chunk together like minded concepts or use acronyms to remember information.
  • Exercise your brain. Just like your muscles, if your brain is not continually exercised and challenged, it will start to degenerate. So it is very important to exercise it daily. I'm a big fan of the Happy Neuron program as it is a terrific memory improvement tool you can use each day to strengthen your mind.

Forgetfulness and memory lapses can happen to all of us and can be due to a variety of causes. For example: aging, medications, illness or injury and just a lack of concentration.

But please do be aware that short term memory loss can be one of the early signs of the onset of senile dementia and alzheimers. Please do make sure that any short term memory loss is not an indicator of a larger problem.
